Museum of Life + Science: Summer Fun

Hot summer days are the perfect time to visit the Museum of Life + Science and cool off in their outdoor exhibits. Yes, I said “cool off” and “outdoors.” It is possible.

Exploring Into the Mist at the Museum of Life + Science

Head to the Museum first thing in the morning and start your visit at Into The Mist. Located back near the sailboats, Into The Mist features 3 different areas with misting sprayers that can be turned on by visitors via a button. There are also a couple of sandboxes to dig in, tunnels to crawl through, and paths to follow.

Tip: Members can enter the Museum and start playing an hour earlier than the general public. This is a huge plus on hot days to get there ahead of the heat as well as to get better parking. Those shady spots go fast!

Kids will love that they can get wet and dirty in this unique exhibit. Only a small section is shaded so be prepared with hats, sunscreen, and sandals. There is a faucet located at the entrance to the exhibit where you can do a quick rinse of dirty feet after. I highly recommending bringing a towel to wipe off any excess and maybe a change of clothes although you should be dry by the time you get to your car.

Tip: I noticed a few parents dressed their kids in their swimsuits for this or even just a rash guard swim top plus shorts. Great ideas.

Before getting too clean though, stop by Hideaway Woods on your walk back toward the Museum building for more outdoor fun. Explore the treehouses and, since you’re already dirty and it’s hot – splash in the creek! Hideaway Woods features restrooms with a changing area so you’re in the perfect spot to clean up before lunch or your next adventure at the Museum.
