Cedarock Park in Burlington is located about 10 minutes south of interstates 40/85 and is a hidden jewel worth searching out. Sitting on 500 acres, Cedarock offers a variety of outdoor activities for all ages including a playground, trails, camping, disc golf, etc.
We headed out one morning to explore the hiking trails. There are approximately 6 miles worth to follow. After a quick visit to the Visitor’s Center to pick up a map, we decided to start with an easier paved trail near the playground that leads back to a small waterfall. Unfortunately, due to lack of rain, the waterfall was nonexistent, but my kids still enjoyed taking a peek before selecting another trail to follow.
We spent close to an hour on the trails just wandering at a pace our almost 3 year old could handle and then in search of a geocache. After our find, we got in the car and headed back to the Historical Farm closer to the entrance. The buildings on the farm are only open on the weekends (our visit was on a Friday so no luck there), but there was still a good bit to see including some of the animals.
The horses and sheep kept their distance, but a couple of the goats came right up to the fence to see us. Just remember no feeding or petting. Feel free to say hello and take a few photos though.
