Yoga – Working out with Baby (or not)

Please note that this is posted in January 2012.  Many of these places do still offer prenatal yoga and yoga with baby but please call to check the schedule before going.

Doing yoga is one of those things I always put on my “to do” list every New Years. It is so restorative. For a mommy, the moments to be calm and just breathe can help a lot.

Accordingly, I looked up places to do yoga with your baby or tot. Of course, I have yet to try one (silly New Years Resolutions).

Keep in mind that yoga studios’ schedules change frequently, so double check this information before packing your baby up and hauling off for class.

Carrboro Yoga Company

This is the place to Yoga in Carrboro. (To those in the Know, it is CyCo (pronounced “Psycho”)).
Paula Huffman teaches here. She is fabulous. She led me and many people I know through prenatal yoga. She also offers birthing classes. She is a star resource for pregnant mommies in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area.

PostNatal class, Tuesdays 10 – 11:15 am

Hillsborough Yoga and Healing Arts

This is Paula’s own studio. She even has a tab called “All About Babies” on this website.

Mom & Tots yoga, Wednesdays 10:30 – 11:30 am
Mommy Baby yoga, Thursdays 10:30 -11:45 am

By the way, if you would prefer to do your yoga practice without your lovie, Hillsborough Yoga and Healing Arts is now offering childcare during some of their daytime hours. That’s right, a yoga studio that will watch your child while you go work on your downward dog. Fantastic!

(I also know that Paula is welcoming of new mother’s stopping their practice to nurse and otherwise feed the baby. It is a very open environment, so don’t be apprehensive!)

Right off of MLK Blvd. You can swing by the Birthing Center shop, too, while you are in the area.

Healthy Moms North Carolina

The same companythat brings you the aqua classes.  The only yoga is offered in Raleigh.

    Try out the Kid’s Yoga at CYCO! Sounds like a good thing for the bloggers to try! Michele is wonderful, my 4 yo loves the class and I escape for a coffee downstairs! For info on their website you have to look under the workshops tab, not under the class schedule option.

    Thanks for the information, Laura. C might be a little too young to do this yet, but I look forward to trying it when he gets older & adding it to the blog then!! He loves movement, and Cyco rarely gives a bad class. What a great idea. In the meantime, sounds like something that is good for the Events Calendar? Thanks so much for the tip!
