** Updated 2/18/16: Per WRAL, PlayNation has abruptly closed. **

As you may know from reading previous posts, as mommies we are always looking for clean, padded rooms to let our kids go free in. Well, look no further. PlayNation is it.

This is actually a company that sells swingsets and playground equipment which, in a flash of brilliance, decided to set up a showroom. So this is in an industrial park in the midst of RTP brick. Don’t be alarmed, and don’t be deterred.

The place had the biggest, dreamlike swingsets. The entire floor was covered with colorful pads. There was a moonbounce. There was a special place for little kids to hang out called “Breckenridge Village.” And it is all inside! So pollen or rain or cold aside, you can get some recreation time in.

Get this: PlayNation also has free WiFi for parents. So, in the event that you do not have a toddler that you constantly have to be supervising, you can bring your laptop and read some blogs, say, or check up on email, all while sipping on a juicebox.

Most of the kids there trend towards the younger side, we were told (under 2). There were a few older kids there in our visit, but they were incredibly polite. PlayNation makes it a point to enforce the rule that the smallest children have the right of way. A welcome change from the chaos that is the Southpoint Mall playarea.

You do have to pay to get in, but it is cheap. Oh, and free for those under 1!

Snacks and beverages are available for sale. PlayNation has some rules posted (including the one I listed above about babies having the right of way), but overall the atmosphere was incredibly relaxed.

This is the sort of place best for crawlers or walkers, unfortunately.

And call ahead. They do birthday parties at PlayNation, which means they close the open play for the day. A birthday party there sounds good to me!

This place is a lot of fun! My son is 11 months and had a great time. Please note that if your child is under one and walking they may charge you the under 2 rate of $5! It is still worth it though. I got in for free and had just as much fun as he did!
