Chuy’s Tex-Mex opens it’s second Triangle location today in Cary’s Parkside Town Commons shopping center. Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit for the media sneak peek. The new restaurant is colorful and eclectically decorated.
While each Chuy’s restaurant is a bit different, they all feature a few similar details which connect them to the very first Chuy’s that opened in Texas in 1982 including hand carved & painted fish and handmade metal palm trees – both created by the same artisan families since the start.
Of course, the most important detail of any restaurant is the food. Chuy’s has a menu of Tex-Mex favorites and specialities that are made fresh every day. The restaurant has a large walk-in cooler packed with fresh produce, perishables, and items prepped for that day’s service. There is also a tiny freezer that contains exactly 2 foods – ice cream for the kids and french fries.
The perk of all this fresh food? Fresh taste and easy customization. Whether you or your child want something a bit different than listed (change of meat or sauce? Not as spicy?) – just ask your server.
Other fun facts:
- Visit Monday through Friday 4p-7p for happy hour and enjoy the nacho bar free. And who else has a nacho bar in the trunk of a Cadillac?
- Bring in a framed picture of your dog for Chuy’s to hang on the wall and get a free appetizer. Plus the fun of seeing Fido’s photo each time you visit.
- Kids can end their meal with a free ice cream.
With all of the unique, colorful decor and lively music playing, it’s almost impossible for your kids to be bored while you wait on your food. But, if they are, see who can spot the most hidden sea creatures. They are hidden all over the restaurant. (Hint: I saw a sting ray somewhere in the car themed room.) Or, take a stroll closer to the kitchen to watch fresh tortillas being made on the comal and visit Elvis hanging out near the bathrooms.
Speaking of bathrooms, parents will be happy to know that Chuy’s has a family restroom in addition to the traditional men & women restrooms. Now that, is family friendly.
Chuy’s has a second Triangle area location in North Hills, Raleigh.
Disclosure: I was invited to participate in the grand opening media event, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
